U.S. Airborne WWII
Modeling the U.S. Army in WWII

I tell you, it gets harder and harder to review VP products.

If these guys were any more stiff they'd be dead. The same could be said for these figures.

The accompanying photo and previous reviews of recent airborne figures pretty much speak to the quality of this set. The flat-footed "running" figure resembles one of those ramrod-spined dancers from Riverdance. The kneeling soldier is only marginally better.

However, for a diorama I'm working on I used the torso of the kneeling figure on the lower portion of the running man, repositioned the toe on the boot of the right foot, and that created a fairly realistic-looking figure racing forward. I'm not sure what will become of the kneeling body part and remaining torso. But mixing and matching various figures gives you an expanded range of poses.

The rest of the set is standard Verlinden, from the 1/32 scale Garand knock-off from Airfix to the ubiquitous pouches, entrenching tools, and grenades. The figures scale to just under 6' tall.

I wish I could be excited about VP figures in the same way I look forward to new Nemrod or Warriors releases. I wish my worst fears wouldn't always be confirmed when I open the box. I wish VP would hire a new sculptor. I wish they would improve their attention to detail and accuracy. I wish they would use 1/35 scale gear and weapons. I wish they would realize other companies are able to accomplish this and more.
