Revell - Monogram
Modeling the U.S. Army in WWII

Revell and Monogram were archrivals during the first "golden age" of modeling of the 1950s and 1960s. A recent show about models on the History Channel noted that they each churned out 100,000 kits a day at their peak. But decline in the industry ensued and the two companies ended up merging in 1985. In 2007, the company was bought by Hobboco, Inc., of Champaign, Illinois. These days Revell produces about 15,000 kits a day in a variety of subjects.

Early Monogram armor kits from the 1960s were produced in 1/32 scale. These can still turn up in hobby shops when someone sells their stash to the store. I picked up the Jeep and 37mm antitank gun in the spring of 2002. It's a very simple kit, suitable for youngsters, but I'd like to build a 37mm and thought this might provide a few suitable parts. But even experienced modelers enjoy these kits and add their own scratchbuilt details and corrections.

Revell's 1/35 military kits tend to be reboxes of Italeri items. They also make a respectable line of 1/72 AFVs, although some are reboxed 1/76 Matchbox kits.
